Hyundai & Suzuki score high as the most reliable cars

Surprisingly, premium brands like BMW, Audi, or Land Rover do not produce the most reliable cars. So, what is the most reliable car of 2018?

If dependability is what you’re after, your best bet is to stick with Hyundai, Suzuki, Kia, or Škoda. While consumer favourites like Ford and Vauxhall rank above the industry average, they barely make the cut. Findings of the JD Power’s 2018 UK Vehicle Dependability Study heavily focused on emerging and new technologies. This includes features like bluetooth pairing, voice recognition, and automatic transmission starters.

Since small cars and superminis tend to include minimal tech features, there’s less to go wrong. This could well be one of the factors that help the rankings when it comes to the most reliable small cars.

To gather an adequate sample size, JD Power’s data set includes responses from over 13,500 individuals. Additionally, for relevancy, the 2018 study assessed owners of new vehicles between 2015 and 2017.

If you’d like to know more about how your own car ranked, which are the most reliable family models, or how the performance cars with power rate, head over to the study for the full results. You can also find out which is the most reliable car of 2018.

Comparison with 2017’s most reliable cars

Digging into the JD Power Reliability 2018 study, the most dramatic change was Volvo’s position from #2 in 2017 to #17 in 2018. Kia, Škoda, and Suzuki all remained in the top 5 from 2017 to 2018. Fuel economy was a big factor for car owners in 2017.

Technology was also addressed, but wasn’t as prominent as 2018’s study. In its third year, the study looked at 177 problem areas across eight categories for 2017 and 2018. Factors considered include the exterior, driving experience, features, controls, and displays, among necessities like engine and transmission. Read the JD Power 2017 UK Vehicle Dependability Study.

Contradictory 2018 UK customer service rankings

On the flipside, Land Rover, along with Volvo and Mercedes-Benz performed well in the 2018 JD Power UK Customer Service Index (CSI). These results have nothing to do the most reliable cars. High ranked brands understand how to reach customers through digital tools like text message communication. Similarly, they know the importance of online scheduling and transparency.
