Research conducted by DrivingElectric.com reveals a considerable amount of drivers, nearly 40%, require 50-300 miles from electric cars. Even more so, one in ten of early electric vehicle (EV) adopters expect a range of up to 150 miles. According to the Nissan Leaf website, the Worldwide Harmonised Light Vehicle Test Procedure (WLTP), explained here, certifies a total per-charge distance of 168 miles. This figure falls within the 50-300 mile range mentioned above.
Adding to the Leaf’s appeal is its ability to perform like petrol-powered cars on the road. What?Car cites this in its 5-star review.
“Launched in 2011, it made other battery-powered options of the time seem like golf buggies because it looked, well, like a proper car. And it drove like one, too, with nippy acceleration and a top speed that meant you could actually get where you were going faster than on a push bike.”
Nissan Leaf popular among potential EV owners
According to FleetNews, Sophus3 found the Nissan Leaf topped online queries for EV’s in the UK. In fact, the car outperformed the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV, Volkswagen Golf, Renault ZOE, BMW i3, BMW i8, Renault Twizy, Kia Nero, Hyundai IONIQ, and Audi A3.
Also, worth mentioning, is the substantial amount of time drivers spend researching EV’s before making a purchase.
“The analysis found that electric car considerers spend over 33% more time on model pages than traditional car researchers.
Those booking a test drive request are spending a 70% longer on the model page of their choice than for a traditional car test drive request.”
