It’s usually recommended to give your car a full service every year or every 12,000 miles, whichever happens first. In between times, an interim service ensures your motor remains in the best possible condition.

Although not legally required, regular servicing will keep your vehicle running smoothly and safely, pinpointing potential problems early on and reducing the risk of more serious (and expensive) issues cropping up later.

And while there is some overlap with an MOT in terms of things checked, it doesn’t pay to skimp on either inspection.

What’s included in a car service?

Fixter offers three kinds of services, depending on your mileage, with exact prices dependent on your car’s age, model, make and engine size. All three exceed virtually all manufacturers’ recommended inspections.

Full service

• 71 maintenance checks

• Drain engine oil, refill, replace oil filter and checks for excessive leaks.

• Replace air filter.

Major service

• 71 maintenance checks

• Drain engine oil, refill, replace oil filter and checks for excessive leaks

• Replace air filter.

• Replace cabin filter.

• Replace fuel filter (if needed).

• Replacing of brake fluid and coolant.

Interim service (recommended for high-mileage motorists)

• 40 maintenance checks

• Oil change; checks for any excessive leaking

For cars at their price-point, Suzuki crams in a lot of tech. The Vitara, for example, comes with Suzuki’s Boosterjet turbocharged engine and Allgrip 4-wheel drive system for performance, and a host of additional technology for drivability.

It also incorporates driver assistance features such as a lane departure warning that includes visual signals and a vibrating steering wheel, cruise control and fully integrated smartphone connectivity—features you’d tend to expect to find on much higher priced vehicles.

In the current climate where ecology and green motoring has become prevalent, the ‘Smart Hybrid Vehicle by Suzuki’ advanced driving system reduces CO2 emissions and lowers your running costs. What Suzuki has done here, is create a lighter and smaller system than the standard hybrid arrangement.
