Because of the simplicity of an EV compared to that of a petrol or diesel-driven car, servicing a purely electric vehicle is, indeed, a simpler process. There are fewer costs for replacement parts and consumables, there are fewer long-term maintenance issues, so you’d like to think service would be considerably cheaper. For the most part, they are, but there are a few points to note that throw a few proverbial tiny flies in the EV ointment.

It depends where you take your car to have it serviced as to exactly what you’ll get for your money, but rest assured, every full car service will include an abundance of checks, replacements, refills and adjustments.

Both a full and major service include all the same checks, except the latter is more comprehensive. You'll only need to book a major service every two years, whereas a full service should be carried out at least once a year. You may also want to get an interim service every 6 months to keep your car running as smoothly and safely as possible.

In 2003, the Motor Vehicle Block Exemption Regulation was passed. It finally allowed motorists the freedom to choose where they had their car maintenance and vehicle services carried out, as warranties were no longer tied to dealerships or franchises (just as long as the new operator promised to use approved or genuine parts and consumables).
