Our expert insights into free air con check

What is included in an air con check?

During the check our mechanic will check your air con pressure, the quantity of gas, make sure there are no leaks and check your refrigerant levels to see if your system needs to be regassed for optimal performance. If you do require an aircon regas or repair, the mechanic will be happy to provide you with a free, no-obligation quote upfront.

How do I know if my car aircon needs regassing or servicing?

Typically, you'll notice that the air blowing from your vents isn't as cold as it usually is. Or if there is a more serious problem with your air conditioning system, it might not be blowing any air at all.

Hey Fixter, how often should I regas my car aircon system?

Manufacturers recommend a regas every 1–2 years. It's a good idea to service the aircon system at the same time to ensure optimum performance.

Our reviews

Takes a lot of stress away

I would definitely recommend this company: knowing someone was keeping an eye on everything to make sure I wasn't being overcharged for parts and labour takes a lot of stress out of having the work done. I felt really well looked after. Thank you Fixter.

Kathleen Hodge, West Yorkshire

Excellent service

Excellent service. On time to pick up my car & drop it back. Full service cost £179, main dealer quoted me £700-lots different!

Muhammad, Birmingham

Total game-changer!

Just had my MOT done through Fixter for the first time. It took about 5 minutes of my time in total to book, hand over the key, and get it back when the car was returned. So I was able to carry on looking after my 2 year old. Total game-changer!

Oliver Woodford, London

No need to drive to a garage

Can't get more convenient than someone turning up, taking the car from the house for its MOT and returning it a few hours later. No having to drive to a garage (often miles from anywhere or in the middle of an industrial estate) or hanging around waiting.

Darren, Pontefract

I literally cannot fault them

This is the 3rd time I have used Fixter and I recommend to everyone. It makes getting an MOT super easy for me. Everyone I speak to on the phone is incredibly helpful and polite, and they seem to be the most cost effective. I literally cannot fault them.

Citroën

Citroën is a French automobile manufacturer, part of the PSA Peugeot Citroën Group since 1976, established over 100 years ago in March 1919.

Citroën produced the world’s first mass-produced front-wheel drive car and one of the first to feature a unitary type body, with no chassis supporting its mechanical components.

Citroën is probably better known for its quirky design and fun fashion styled brand of cars. Offering something different from more traditional sporty looks, they are a brand that provides value without being cheap.

There were 1.3m Citroën cars on the roads at the close of 2018; a figure that peaked in the early part of 2015 and has maintained a very similar number ever since.

Good value vehicles for family driving

Citroën offers a range of fun-looking smaller city cars and family cars for every ilk. The smallest starts with their C1 city model, growing into the C3 mini-MPV and SUV models, then the C4 subcompact and compact featuring crossover and SUV styles, up to the C5 family saloon, that is also available as an SUV sporting Citroën’s Aircross moniker. With models featuring up to 7 seats, Citroën doesn’t just create cars for everyday family motoring—they supply cars for the biggest of families.

Why is my car’s air conditioning important?

A fully functioning air con system is important for the comfort of you and your passengers, especially on warmer days and on long journeys. Air conditioning is also very important because it helps cool the car down, making it safer to drive in hot weather and reducing the risk of it overheating.

How long should aircon regas last?

The gas in your air conditioning unit can last up to as long as 5 years, but most will manage somewhere nearer only 2.

We'd recommend having your aircon serviced every few years, but many drivers choose to wait until there's no cold air blowing from their vents. Although this is quite a standard practice among drivers, it's not always the best idea if you want to protect your compressor and maintain its optimum operation.

Do you use more fuel with the aircon on?

Using your aircon can increase fuel consumption by up to 8–10%. However, driving with the windows open can cause extra drag, especially at higher speeds, which will also increase fuel consumption.

Does car aircon gas run out?

Yes. The refrigerant gas used to keep your car interior cool will be used up over time. When getting your gas topped up, you should also check the aircon's lubricant level for optimum performance.

What happens if there is no gas in my car’s aircon?

Without the gas your aircon requires, it won't be able to provide the necessary cold air to keep you and your passengers cool on a hot journey. Also, if there isn't enough gas in your system, the compressor could become excessively hot and even damaged.

How long does it take to regas an air conditioning system?

The labour time will vary depending on the mechanic and on your car make and model. It usually takes around 45 minutes to complete a re-gas on your vehicle's air conditioning system if it is fault-free.
