What does an air conditioning regas do?

Most modern cars come with air con. However, like anything else, it needs regular maintenance. If you’re not getting cold air into your vehicle, regasing is the most likely solution.

A regas service is the removal of old refrigerant gas from the system, replacing and recharging it, along with the lubricant and in line with the manufacturer’s instructions, so that the air runs cold again (vehicles made from 2017 onwards are legally obliged to use a new type of refrigerant).

When do I need an air con recharge?

The manufacturers advise recharging your car air con every two years. It is crucial to make sure that recharging is a part of your normal vehicle maintenance routine because your car's air conditioner is not checked as part of your MOT test and is not usually included in your service.

An AC recharge can restore cold air when you need it most on hot days and increase fuel efficiency because there is less stress on the engine and system.

  • If your air conditioner is sending out warm air or only operates sometimes, this can help.

  • Odours emanating from the vents indicate that your air con needs maintenance, specifically an air-conditioning diagnostic.

Is the air conditioning check included in the MOT?

A faulty air conditioner won’t affect your car’s MOT, but it can affect the comfort of you and your passengers. It’s worth keeping your air conditioning running at its optimum performance as the impact it can have on your vehicle’s fuel efficiency could significantly affect the day-to-day cost of your motoring.

How do I know which air con gas I require?

Vehicles built prior to 2014 often run on R134A gasoline. Since January 1, 2017, all automobiles equipped with an air con system have been built using the new, more ecologically friendly R1234YF air conditioning gas. In an effort to combat global warming, manufacturers are no longer permitted to use the older R134A air conditioning gas as of this date because it is thought to be more harmful to the environment. Vehicle makers implemented R1234YF gasoline gradually; thus, vehicles that were produced between 2014 and 2016 might have needed either type of gasoline.

Electric vehicle air conditioning recharge

When it comes to air conditioning service, electric and hybrid automobiles alike will also need to have their air conditioning systems recharged. This is similar to cars powered by gasoline and diesel. If not, your car's air conditioning system won't work properly and will begin to vent heated air.

What happens when you book an air conditioning regas with Fixter?

  • Our efficient and fully qualified mechanics will check for cracks and leaks that could be hindering the air conditioning system’s efficient operation.

  • Wherever required, all old refrigerant will be removed from your air conditioning system and replaced with a precise quantity of fresh refrigerant.

  • You will also be advised of any other parts that may need to be replaced for the best operation and health of your vehicle.

  • Once the refrigerant has been replaced, our mechanics will test it thoroughly to ensure its correct running and make any adjustments required for its premium operation.

While DIY kits are available, they save you almost nothing compared with getting trained technicians to do the job. Because if something goes wrong, you could be left with a pricey bill, or there could be safety issues. Book your car's air con service with Fixter and avoid all the AC issues.

Our reviews

Takes a lot of stress away

I would definitely recommend this company: knowing someone was keeping an eye on everything to make sure I wasn't being overcharged for parts and labour takes a lot of stress out of having the work done. I felt really well looked after. Thank you Fixter.

Total game-changer!

Just had my MOT done through Fixter for the first time. It took about 5 minutes of my time in total to book, hand over the key, and get it back when the car was returned. So I was able to carry on looking after my 2 year old. Total game-changer!

No need to drive to a garage

Can't get more convenient than someone turning up, taking the car from the house for its MOT and returning it a few hours later. No having to drive to a garage (often miles from anywhere or in the middle of an industrial estate) or hanging around waiting.

Darren, Pontefract

I literally cannot fault them

This is the 3rd time I have used Fixter and I recommend to everyone. It makes getting an MOT super easy for me. Everyone I speak to on the phone is incredibly helpful and polite, and they seem to be the most cost effective. I literally cannot fault them.
